Dear Parents and Carers,

What a beautiful week it has been with the weather making it feel more like July than late April. It has been lovely seeing our children embracing our grounds and participating in a range of activities and games during lunchtimes. The weather also came at a perfect time for our class photographs, the majority of which were taken outside with a lovely sunny day backdrop and all of your children (and our staff of course) looking fabulous!

As we move towards the summer and the weather gets warmer, it is very important that all children come to school dressed appropriately for the heat. You may also wish to consider your child wearing a sun hat to protect their heads and faces from direct sunlight and also applying sunscreen before school to prevent sunburn.

One of my highlights from this week was stumbling across some paddling pools outside of Year Two, where the children had created some mock-up beaches. Sand, water, shells and pebbles were all present to create something of a nostalgic feel as I am sure we all fondly look back on seaside trips both as children and even as adults. I also took the opportunity to ask Miss Whelan and Miss Black if I could have one of the paddling pools for my office to keep things cool this term!

I wanted to take the opportunity today to talk about breakfast with you. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, especially for growing children. A healthy breakfast gives children the energy and focus they need to start their day right, helping them concentrate better in class and perform well in school activities. It also helps keep moods steady and prevents the mid-morning hunger that can distract from learning. As I am sure you are aware, we run a very popular breakfast club here at De Havilland which is currently at capacity. I would like to pay tribute to our breakfast club staff team who, despite undertaking an extremely challenging role, greet and supervise the children each day with such enthusiasm. If you are registered for our breakfast club, you will receive some communication from the school about a small favour we need from you regarding arrival time to ensure the club runs as smoothly as possible.

At this time of year, I always feel we are spoilt by the number of long weekends and I hope you are able to make the most of the extra day 'off'. I am looking forward to watching something of an important football match tomorrow, running a 10k in my local town on Sunday before visiting a brand new cat cafe which has just opened. The cat cafe visit is definitely the one I am most looking forward to!
